BARRY PARKER
It is with great sadness that we have to announce the recent passing of Barry Parker, one of the Midlands’ longest serving officials.
Barry was an active member of Derbyshire Schools’ Athletics Association for more than 40 years and was an ever-present at all our schools’ events in many different roles.
Many of you will have had the privilege to work alongside Barry and can reflect on his knowledge, dedication and enthusiasm he had both for schools’ athletics and the wider sport of athletics.
For those of you on social media you will have seen the many tributes to Barry from people who have worked alongside Barry in local and national competitions.

IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM WORLD ATHLETICS
Dear Member Federations,
Please find below an important update on the Men’s U18 javelin.
According to TR38.10, new specifications of the 700g javelin come in force from 1 April 2025. However, several MFs have raised concerns regarding the global availability of the new javelins and have declared not to be ready for staging competitions with the new javelins as of this date. At the same time, other MFs have indicated to be already fully equipped with the new javelins.
In the interest of the athletes and to ensure that competitions may be staged globally, a ‘grace period’ of 7 months from 1 April 2025 to 31 October 2025 will be introduced in which both types of 700 javelins (i.e. the javelins compliant with the current specifications and the javelins compliant with the new specifications) may be used, including within the same competition. During this period, there is no need to indicate in the results lists which type of javelin has been used. As of 1 November 2025, only the new javelin may be used in competition.
As a consequence, the new list of “World Best Performances” for the new javelin will only start as of 1 November 2025 and will only consider performances achieved as of this date.
Best regards,
World Athletics
